Personal Support Worker

Take It Easy is actively seeking qualified and experienced Personal Support Workers to provide direct care to patients. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping others and who have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide high-quality care to our patients.

Qualifications:

Valid First Aid & CPR: This means that you must hold current certification in First Aid and CPR

  • Proof of current immunizations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV): You must provide documentation showing that you have received vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.
  • Proof of negative TB skintest within one (1) year: You must provide proof of a negative TB skin test within the past year.
  • Current N95 Mask Fit Test Certificate: You must hold a current N95 mask fit test certificate, which demonstrates your ability to wear N95 masks safely and correctly.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check: You must have a current police check that includes a vulnerable sector check.
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate is an asset: While not required, having a Personal Support Worker Certificate is an asset and may increase your chances of being hired.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is an asset: Similar to the Personal Support Worker Certificate, having a Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention certification is an asset that may increase your chances of being hired.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or documentation: As a condition of employment, all hires will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, unless a valid accommodation exists under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team: As a PSW, you may be required to work independently with patients or as part of a team that includes other healthcare professionals, such as nurses and physicians. You should be comfortable with both scenarios.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills: As a PSW, you will be working closely with patients and their families, as well as with other healthcare professionals. You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with these groups.
  • Shift scheduling requirements: This section outlines the specific scheduling requirements for the PSW position. You must be available for urgent or last-minute shifts, which may be scheduled with as little as two hours’ notice. You should be able to work flexible shifts, including eightor twelve-hour shifts. You must be available to work all shifts, including days, evenings, and nights, as well as weekends and statutory holidays. You will be required to work two weekends per month.
  • Reliability: Once you provide your availability, you must be reliable in showing up for the shifts you are scheduled for. You may be placed at different facilities or units, and it’s important to be committed to the agreed-upon schedule.

Responsibilities

A PSW is responsible for providing support and care to patients who may have physical or cognitive limitations that affect their ability to perform activities of daily living. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Toileting: Assisting patients with toileting activities, such as emptying bedpans, assisting patients to the toilet, and providing incontinence care.
  • Transferring and positioning: Assisting patients with transferring, moving, positioning, and turning to help prevent bedsores and promote comfort.
  • Developing therapeutic relationships: Developing a supportive and therapeutic relationship with clients/patients to encourage independence and enhance their quality of life.
  • Mealtime activities: Assisting patients with mealtime activities, such as feeding and ensuring adequate nutrition.
  • Medication support: Assisting patients with medication management, such as reminding them to take their medications and administering medication as prescribed.
  • Overall, a PSW must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and be able to provide compassionate care to patients with various physical and cognitive challenges.
